About Scott

  1. The Rev. Scott Claassen is an Episcopal priest and musician from California. He currently lives in Santa Barbara along with his wife Maribeth and sons Henry (10), Jimmy (8), and Amos (5).

After graduating from Yale Divinity School, Scott spent one year without flying or driving as part of a Carbon Sabbath. During that time, he cycled around the country engaging Christian communities in dialogue about climate change.

In 2014, Scott was ordained to the Episcopal diaconate during Thad’s monthly Laundry Love program, and he was ordained to the priesthood later that year. From 2015-2023, Scott served as Episcopal chaplain to UCSB and vicar of St. Michael’s University Church in Isla Vista, CA. He is currently Interim Rector/Priest in Charge of St. Mark’s in the Valley in Los Olivos, CA.

When not working or with his family, Scott is often surfing, playing music, or dreaming of new ways to make a love-spreading difference in the world.
